Planet of the Vampires (1965)
“Planet of the Vampires” (Terrore nello spazio in Italian) is a 1965 science fiction horror film directed by Mario Bava. The story unfolds as two interplanetary ships, the Galliott and the Argos, respond to a distress signal from an uncharted, fog-enshrouded planet called Aura. Upon landing, the crew members undergo a strange transformation: they become possessed by an unknown force. Only Captain Markary resists, and he must navigate the eerie landscape to uncover the planet’s secrets. The disembodied inhabitants of Aura use the animated corpses of the dead crew to stalk and kill the remaining survivors. The film’s suspenseful atmosphere and haunting visuals have led some critics to suggest it influenced Ridley Scott’s “Alien.”
