The Gorgon (1964)
“The Gorgon” is a 1964 British horror film that delves into the dark and mysterious events surrounding a small European village. The story unfolds in the early 20th century, where a series of inexplicable murders plague the village of Vandorf. Each victim is found petrified, turned to stone, with no apparent cause for their demise.
The narrative follows the tragic tale of Sascha Cass, who chases after him into the forest while pregnant with her artist boyfriend Bruno Heitz’s child. Upon seeing its face, she encounters a hideous creature that turns her to stone. The discovery of her petrified body leads to Bruno’s wrongful accusation and subsequent death.
As suspicion falls on Bruno, Professor Jules Heitz, Bruno’s father, seeks to clear his son’s name. He believes that the true culprit is an ancient mythological creature known as Megeara, a Gorgon whose gaze can turn humans to stone. The professor’s quest for the truth leads him to confront the terrifying reality that haunts Vandorf and threatens to consume it entirely.
